A. Schulman Inc. now will distribute high-performance nylon resins for Solvay Group in the Middle East, Africa and most of Europe.
The new deal between Fairlawn, Ohio-based Schulman and Solvay of Brussels covers Solvay's Ixef-brand polyarylamide and Omnix-brand and Kalix-brand high-performance nylons in the Middle East, Africa and Europe with the exception of Italy.
“Over the last 20 years, we have developed a strong strategic partnership with Solvay,” Schulman executive Horst Klink said in a Jan. 26 news release. “We distribute their melt-processable fluoropolymers…and our close collaboration covers an increasing number of developmental projects.”
“The added territories reinforce our ability to offer an even higher service level to our customers,” added Klink, who serves as vice president of Schulman's performance materials business in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
The materials are used in a wide variety of applications and markets, including automotive, aeronautics, smart devices, healthcare and energy production and storage.
Schulman ranks as one of the largest compounders in concentrate makers in both North America and Europe and as one of Europe's leading resin distributors as well. The firm employs 4,800 globally and posted sales of $2.5 billion for the year ended Aug. 31.
Solvay is a global producer of specialty chemicals and plastics. The firm employs 30,000 worldwide and rang up sales of almost $13.3 billion in 2015.
