German-based specialty chemicals company Altana AG has acquired the U.S. developer and manufacturer of plastic additives PolyAd Services LLC, the company announced Feb. 1.
PolyAd will be integrated into the plastics additives business line of Altana's largest division, BYK Additives & Instruments.
PolyAd is headquartered in St. Louis, where it also has development and production facilities. The company has operating companies in the U.S. and Germany.
“With the acquisition of PolyAd Services, we are creating additional value in a targeted manner and at the same time strengthening our innovative capabilities,” said Christoph Schlünken, member of the Altana management board.
According to Altana, PolyAd Services offers “additive solutions” for plastics applications in a number of industries, including the automotive, construction, packaging and electronic sectors.
“With the acquisition, we are systematically expanding our product portfolio and application spectrum in the field of plastics additives even more following the recent purchase of the Dutch additive manufacturer Addcomp,” added Stephan Glander, president of BYK Additives & Instruments.
“We very much look forward to our joint future with BYK, which will enable us to fully exploit our company's potential in the plastics additives market,” said PolyAd CEO Mike Modak.
In addition to improving plastics properties, PolyAd's additive solutions are tailor-made for customers so they can, for instance, improve the thermal stability of their products in the automotive sector.
Headquartered in Wesel, Germany, Altana has 47 production facilities and more than 50 service and research laboratories worldwide.
BYK Additives & Instruments, part of Altana Group, supplies additives and measuring instruments and has production sites in Germany, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, the U.S. and China.
