Teknor Apex Co. has expanded its supply of medical thermoplastic elastomers in Asia after receiving ISO-13485 certification for its TPE production facility in Singapore.
In a Feb. 13 statement, the supplier said that, up to now, only its U.S. facilities were certified to produce its Medalist branded TPEs. With the recent ISO status, compounds made in Singapore will have "the same properties as those from the U.S."
This, said Stanly Tan, managing director of Teknor Apex Asia Pacific, will "save transit time and shipping costs in supplying the Asian market."
The certificate comes at a time of "rapid innovation" for the Medalist product range, according to Serene Cheng, TPE business director at Teknor Apex.
This, Cheng said, includes new technologies for replacement of latex in films, extrusion blow molding of bags and bottles, coating of wire and cable, calendering and welding of bags and pouches.
According to Cheng, the company now offers a portfolio of compounds for medical tubing that provide "practical alternative to PVC" in terms of flexibility, clarity and properties such as resistance to kinking and necking, clamp resilience and haptics.
