Today Plastics News publishes our 23rd annual ranking of North American Thermoformers. In print, we rank the top 100, but online (plasticsnews.com/rankings/thermoformers) we've got full data for 225 companies. Let's take a look at some of the numbers behind the ranking.
Our ranking includes nearly $12 billion in North American thermoforming sales, a 3.2 percent increase over last year's totals. The average thermoforming sales per company is up 4 percent.
Most resins' year over year pricing dipped slightly with the notable exception of polypropylene. Looking at the top 25 firms, about a quarter show sales dips as well. The rest increased or remained the same, suggesting that pass-through may not have played as big of a role as in previous years.
38 companies have all of their ranked sales listed as packaging, for a total of $8.8 billion in sales. Meaning about 17 percent of the listed firms are exclusive to packaging but make up 73 percent of the ranking. How does that compare over time?
