In 2016, Boyd brought the densified formulation of Solimide to the market. A heat-and-pressure process densifies the cell foam insulation to a desired thickness that provides vibration damping and enhanced thermal management for small spaces.
Boyd says Solimide in densified HT and densified TA forms is “an advanced alternative to current market offerings” for applications in marine vessels, aircraft, spacecraft and rail cars.
“The organization continues to work on new product development initiatives to best support our customers,” said Vijay Tummala, Boyd market segment manager.
Boyd's Solimide Foams division employs 40 persons and has manufacturing capabilities in a 100,000-square-foot facility in Magnolia, Ark.
Originally, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration developed the non-flammable Solimide foam for the 1960s-era Apollo spacecraft program.
Boyd has other domestic manufacturing operations in Portland, Ore.; Elkhart, Ind.; Fairburn, Ga., and Anaheim, Calif., and foreign entities in Shenzhen, Wuxi and Langfang, China; Seongnam, South Korea; Chatuchak, Bangkok; Chonburi, Thailand; Tiên Du district, Vietnam; and Syke, Germany.
Epson's new Flexion robots is the first six-axis device to feature a compact folding arm design that saves space, Michael Ferrara, director of Epson Robots in the Americas, said at the UBM Advanced Manufacturing expo in Anaheim. The Flexion “folds in on itself.”
Design of the Flexion confines the movement of the arm extremities and can boost motion efficiency. The target markets include medical and electronics.
Epson Robots, the robotics design and manufacturing department of Toyoshina, Japan-based Seiko Epson Corp., plans to expand and diversify its Flexion six-axis robot portfolio beginning in October 2018.
An N2 model will offer a 450-millimeter reach and 5.51-pound (2.5-kilogram) maximum payload.
Epson Robots has a North American warehouse for robots and printers in Carson, Calif., and reports within the Epson Americas Inc. regional headquarters in Long Beach, Calif.
Globally, Epson Robots has an installed base of more than 55,000 robots.
UBM plc's Design News of Burlington, Mass., the UBM Americas-organized Feb. 7-9 expo in Anaheim and Allied Electronics Inc. of Fort Worth, Texas, sponsored the 2017 Golden Mousetrap Awards competition.
