Automotive supplier Plastic Omnium SA is continuing to invest in U.S. manufacturing capacity.
The French manufacturer announced plans to build a plant in Greer, S.C., to supply large exterior painted body parts to the nearby BMW plant, along with assembly plants in the region for Volvo and Daimler. That plant, along with a plant in Smyrna, Tenn., molding fuel systems for Nissan, are planned to be operational by mid-2018.
This latest investment follows new plants in Chattanooga, Tenn.; and Fairfax, Kan., supplying Volkswagen and General Motors, respectively. The four plants will employ nearly 1,000 and represent an investment of $300 million, according to a company news release.
Plastic Omnium operates 138 plants and 23 research centers worldwide. The company manufactures 27 million bumpers and 19 million fuel systems per year, according to a recent presentation to investors. Plastic Omnium also manufactures waste containers for local authorities and companies.
