Ontario plastics recycling site gets new owners, new name

A plastics packaging recycling operation reopening in Sarnia, Ontario, has a new name — ReVital Polymers Inc.

The site, acquired last year by Emmie Leung and Tony Moucachen, previously operated as Entropex LLC operations.

Entropex, one of the largest plastics recyclers in North America, shuttered its doors last summer under the weight of depressed commodity prices for recycled resin.

But Leung, founder of waste and recycling company Emterra Group, and Moucachen, founder of Merlin Plastics Group, put together a bid for the assets of Entropex that was accepted by a Canadian court. The bid included the company's 180,000-square-foot facility. Merlin ranked 19th on the latest Plastics News listing of plastic recyclers in North America, handling an estimated 132 million pounds.

"Our process allows us to customize production to meet the specific needs of our customers, contributing to more sustainable products made from recycled content," Moucachen said in a statement.

ReVital processes both postconsumer and postindustrial plastics, creating "discrete resin types, tailoring them to specific customer end use applications."

Leung said ReVital is "offering programs and services that will improve recovery rates for producers and increase material value though better end-of-life management."

ReVital Polymer also handles other packaging materials such as paper and metal, the company said.
