Auburn, N.Y. — Currier Plastics Inc. is investing in two Magic all-electric extrusion blow molding machines, made by Italian machinery maker Magic MP SpA.
Currier picked the Magic brand based on cost, service and a compact footprint, but Steve Crawford, blow molding engineering manager, said a big reason was the machines fit with Auburn company's blow molding resources. The machines are coming in the second quarter of this year.
“The Magic machines, by design, will give us more machine capacity because we can use our existing molds, heads and secondary automation,” Crawford said.
“We needed more of this size machine to support our growing business in the medical and consumer care markets,” he said.
The secondary automation includes a takeout system that orients each bottle to an upright position before leak testing and vision inspection. The vision inspection measures the neck dimensions to guarantee the bottles meet specifications and that moils and tails detached properly, Currier officials said.
Magic, based in Monza, Italy, makes only all-electric blow molding machines.
The two new Magic presses are the second and third all-electric blow molders that Currier Plastics has purchased. The company's first all-electric was a Kautex KBB60D, which Kautex and Currier exhibited together at NPE 2015 in Orlando, Fla.
