Americas Styrenics LLC has resumed full production of styrene monomer at its plant in St. James, La.
Production of styrene, a polystyrene feedstock, had been down at the site in recent months because of repairs that were needed on critical equipment.
“We are back online earlier than expected, due to tremendous support from our team and a number of external experts, who have helped to ensure safe and thorough repairs during this extended turnaround,” President and CEO Bradley Crocker said in an April 5 news release.
“We remain committed to safety and operational reliability in all of our production facilities,” he added.
Officials with AmSty in The Woodlands, Texas, previously had said that the firm's PS resin production hadn't been affected by the styrene outage.
AmSty is one of North America's largest PS makers, operating plants in Gales Ferry, Conn.; Channahon, Ill.; Torrance, Calif.; and Ironton and Marietta, Ohio. The firm also operates a PS plant in Cartagena, Colombia. AmSty is a joint venture between materials firms ChevronPhillips Chemical Co. and Trinseo.
