Its time again for our annual ranking of North American recyclers. In the May 1 issue we rank the top 27, but online we've got data for 209 firms, including brokers.
This listing represents 13.3 billion pounds of material moved in 2016, down about 1.5 percent over 2015. Some 9.8 billion pounds were reprocessed and post consumer material made up 5.3 billion pounds.
Overall the average volume reprocessed per company remained steady at 54.8 million pounds. B. Schoenberg & Co. Inc. of Yorktown, N.Y., reported the largest volume gain of 45.6 percent, around 127 million pounds.
Advanced Environmental Recycling Technologies Inc. of Springdale , Ark., has an agreement to be acquired by Oldcastle Architectural Inc., a U.S. subsidiary of CRH plc. In other news, Jet Polymer Recycling Inc. of Fort Payne, Ala., acquired the assets of United Plastic Recycling Inc. in December. And Industrial Resin Recycling Inc. of Howell, Mich., was acquired by Ravago Holdings America Inc. in August.
