Nypro France SAS, which specializes in manufacturing medical devices and rigid food and hygiene packaging, will close its Fontenay-sur-Eure facility in France in a bid to consolidate volumes within its other European sites, primarily in Ireland and Spain.
The company announced April 20 that the site near Chartres had been facing challenges and increasing competitive pressures “for the past several years.”
This caused program cancellations, volume reductions and severe under-utilization at the site, added Nypro, part of St. Petersburg, Fla.-based Jabil Inc.
According to the medical supplier, the decision to cease production in France was made following “a detailed strategic review of all viable options.”
The restructuring will be implemented at the earliest in December, and will result in 115 job losses at the Fontenay-sur-Eure site. According to a statement from the company, the production will be relocated to Ireland and Spain, creating a total of 45 new jobs.
According to media reports, production of medical devices will be relocated to the two facilities in Ireland, where 37 jobs will be added, while the facility in Tortsa, Spain, will take up the packaging capacity.
“This project is necessary to safeguard the competitiveness of Nypro in an increasingly difficult market. We can no longer sustain the lack of competitiveness, given the uncertainties associated with our current commercial projects, which have seen launch volumes reduced,” said Nypro France managing director Thierry Picquart.
