A new resource to help pharmacies recycle their empty plastic bottles is now available through the Association of Plastic Recyclers.
The trade group has added to its "How to Recycle Grocery Rigid Plastics" guidebook to include a section on recycling the stock bottles used to store pharmaceuticals before they are sold to customers.
These larger bottles are typically made of high density polyethylene and their caps are typically made of polypropylene. They are used to store larger quantities of medicines used by pharmacists to fill individual prescriptions in smaller pill bottles for consumers.
"Many pharmacies are making the switch from disposing of large volumes of stock bottles to setting up dedicated pharmacy stock bottle recycling collection bins," said Liz Bedard, rigid plastics recycling director at APR, in a statement.
