New York — Covestro AG's Baymedix-brand polyurethane materials are making gains in the advanced wound care market.
The materials are being used in a wide range of applications because of their moisture management and breathability, senior technical sales specialist Bentley Mah said at the UBM Advanced Manufacturing Expo, June 13-15 in New York.
PU-based foams also are being used in adhesives, advanced wound dressings and wearables, including short-term attachable healthcare monitors.
Waterproof uses of the materials include operating room drapes and surgical gowns. The PU foam also can be compressed, Mah said, and is imbeddable with wearable electronics.
Covestro's PU dispersions are made at its plant in Dormagen, Germany, but are sold worldwide. The firm is a global plastics and chemicals maker based in Leverkusen, Germany, with North American headquarters in Pittsburgh.
