Emily Webster wears a few different hats at Polifilm America Inc. in Hampshire, Ill., and she loves the diversity her days can bring.
As quality supervisor, it's part of her job to regularly test the adhesive-coated films the company makes for a variety of industries.
As assistant regulatory administrator, it's part of her job to work with both customers and governmental agencies to make ensure the rules are being followed.
And as part of the complaint team, it's part of her job to help review and resolve any issues that might develop with buyers.
With less than a year on the job, Webster readily admits she's still learning a lot about the plastics industry in general and Polifilm in particular.
"I was interested in the industry because it was something I hadn't been exposed to. My educational and occupational backgrounds are quite varied. I am always looking for new experiences and constantly pursuing increased knowledge," Webster said.
"For me, personally, it's fun. I like to stay busy. I like to keep learning. As many parts of this industry that I can get my hands on, I would love it because it really gives you that well-rounded full view instead of that tunnel vision. And I love that," she said.
Polifilm coats with a variety of adhesives to provide product protection in the appliance, glass, automotive, metal, carpet, plastic sheeting, furniture and transportation sectors, for example. The company has more than 500 highly developed products and systems for various applications, according its website.
Webster graduated from Purdue University in 2014 with a degree in ecology, evolution and environmental biology. She has worked in some biology research labs, and her most recent job before joining Polifilm was as a veterinary technician. So Polifilm is a big change.
"It was very different for me. I don't know anybody who works in this industry to be honest. I don't really know that I thought about the industry at all prior to working in it. New things are always very exciting; I'm always trying to learn. Trying to grow. It was just something completely different to get myself into, which is kind of exciting," Webster said.
Polifilm America is part of Germany-based Polifilm Group.
