DS Smith plc is opening the company's first-ever rigid packaging manufacturing plant in North America.
The new location in Romeoville, Ill., near Chicago, joins six other flexible packaging manufacturing sites for the company in North America.
"This is the seventh rigid packaging extruded products facility that will be dedicated to the production of polypropylene bubble-structure sheets for graphics, sleeves and single-use and reusable packaging for the automotive and pharmaceutical markets," the company said in a statement.
The new facility, which is part of DS Smith Plastics, is expected to begin production in the fourth quarter and create an unspecified number of new jobs, the company reported.
The company's rigid packaging extruded products business already has six other locations in France, Spain, Slovakia and the United Kingdom.
The plastics division focuses on three areas: flexible packaging and dispensing solutions, rigid packaging and foam products.
London-based DS Smith plc has operations in 36 countries and employs 26,000.
