Raumedic AG is introducing a new IT-based quality assurance and production control system in all its production locations in Germany and the U.S. by 2019.
Raumedic, a medical technology manufacturer based in Helmbrechts, Germany, reached an agreement with software provider Guardus Solutions, which in October will design the machine link for both existing Raumedic machinery and for future investments.
The manufacturing execution system is designed to increase the transparency of the production operation, according to a company statement. The new system will make machine status, production data and work documents available at all times on a single platform. It will reduce potential error sources and increase savings. It also offers standardized, cross-location performance figures as well as reporting and analysis data.
The MES will eliminate decentralized island systems, Excel lists and paper documents.
Individual jobs can be tracked back to raw material, as well as digitized, cross-linked, managed and documented from the time of development to delivery. The MES also includes integrated training and qualification systems.
A central, standardized data management system will create significant improvements, according to CEO Martin Bayer, as medical technology and pharmaceuticals are sensitive business areas with extremely high quality requirements. Both the company's customers and government regulators place strict demands on the documentation of product and process data.
The system creates an optimal link between quality control and production units, and will enable Raumedic to take on future projects in terms of Industry 4.0, said Florian Pohner, head of IT in a statement.
