Washington — Russell Broome, who left the Society of Plastics Engineers where he was managing director, has moved to another industry group, as the Washington-based Plastics Industry Association has hired him as senior director of business development.
Broome will manage, direct and lead the trade association's membership sales and functions.
The Plastics Industry Association announced the news Sept. 26. Broome left SPE at the end of August.
Broome said joining the trade organization "really answers the passion I have for the U.S. plastics industry."
"I'm dedicated to shaping the next generation of industry leaders and now I will have the opportunity to work even closer with the innovative companies looking to employ them," he said in a statement.
Bill Carteaux, president and CEO of the Plastics Industry Association said Broome's experience in attracting young people to the industry is valuable.
"The skills gap and a shortage of workers are big problems for industry right now," Carteaux said. "Russ Broome's passion for educating the next generation of plastics professionals will be valuable as we continue to recruit more young people into our industry's workforce and into [our] membership."
Broome joined SPE as a student member in 1992.
