Tupperware Brands Corp. is in talks France to close its production site in Joué-lès-Tours, France, due to overcapacity in Europe.
The company announced Oct. 19 it was taking the measure in the face of “significant industrial overcapacity” in Europe and the slowdown of its commercial activities in Central and Western Europe, particularly in France.
The overcapacity, it explained, was also the result of improvement in productivity.
The site, which is one of four European manufacturing sites — the three others are in Belgium, Greece and Portugal — is run by Tupperware France SA through a network of 56 distributors, 1,500 employees and an independent sales force of 27,000 salespeople
The company said its management is currently in talks with the works council and planned to complete the closure in March 2018.
The shutdown will affect 235 jobs.
