MTD Micro Molding has added a 20-ton vertical hybrid press to boost its overmolding capacity.
The Charlton, Mass.-based custom injection molder and mold maker added the Sodick model LP20VRE injection molding press in October.
MTD is experiencing higher customer demand for precision overmolding, Gary Hulecki, executive vice president, said in a statement. The technical capability can improve shot-to-shot consistency and overall part quality.
MTD's output of medical overmolding components includes catheter tips, suturing devices, sports medicine implants and orthopedic devices.
The vertically integrated micromolder employs 31 and currently operates 10 horizontal and three vertical injection molding machines, each with a clamping force of 20 tons.
MTD is certified under the ISO 13485:2003 quality management system for medical devices.
