Poly-Pak Industries Inc., a Melville, N.Y.-based film extruder and converter, has upgraded its printing capabilities with a new flexographic press.
The company paid about $1.5 million for a Premia line from Czech Republic-based Soma Engineering.
"This is our first purchase of a real sophisticated high-speed press," said Peter Levy, president and owner of Poly-Pak. "It is our intent to begin to upgrade all of our equipment."
The press started running in late November. Levy said it is one of the first Premia presses in the United States.
Poly-Pak has 11 extruders and more than 300 employees. The company runs three shifts and typically makes and converts polyethylene and polypropylene films for bags, envelopes and roll stock.
The company was founded in 1958 by Levy's father.
