Sarasota, Fla. — Edward Lapekas, the former chairman and CEO of American National Can Co., died Dec. 1.
Lapekas retired in 2000, shortly after Rexam plc bought Chicago-based ANC. At the time, ANC was the world's second-largest maker of aluminum cans, and a major plastics packaging manufacturer.
More recently, Lapekas was an independent board member at Silgan Holdings Inc., a Stamford, Conn.-based plastics and metal packaging company. He had served on the Silgan board for more than 16 years.
Lapekas, 74, died from cancer in Sarasota.
