Bristol, Conn. — Barnes Group Inc., a company which owns several plastics-related businesses, including hot runner makers Synventive, Otto Manner and Thermoplay, cube-mold maker Foboha and controls maker Gammaflux, has named a new member to its board of directors: Richard Hipple, executive chairman of Materion Corp., a supplier of advanced materials and coatings.
Materion, based in Cleveland, serves a range of markets including mold-making for plastics, where the company offers beryllium copper-based alloys.
Hipple will retire from his post at Materion at the end of this year. He also serves on the boards of Ferro Corp., the maker of plasticizers, pigments, liquid colors and polymer additives; and KeyCorp.
Hipple is a trustee for the Manufacturers Alliance for Productivity and Innovation.
In other news, Barnes, which is based in Bristol, named Peter Gutermann as senior vice president, general counsel and secretary. Before joining Barnes, Gutermann was corporate vice president and chief ethics & compliance officer for United Technologies Corp.
Barnes is traded on the New York Stock Exchange.
