Reifenhäuser GmbH & Co. KG has acquired EDS GmbH, a German supplier of high-end extrusion tools, in a move which will expand its expertise in the value chain, the company announced 17 Jan.
Reifenhäuser, which manufactures extrusion lines for plastics processing, said the Reichshof-Wenrath-based EDS specializes in flat dies.
After acquisition, the EDS site in Reichshof will be turned into a technology and service center for dies. EDS will operate within the Reifenhäuser Group as a separate independent business unit, and former owner Johannes Müller will continue to run the unit together with Uwe Gaedike, director of operations at Reifenhäuser.
Commenting on the acquisition, chairman Bernd Reifenhäuser said the two businesses complemented each other “excellently” in terms of design and production expertise.
Gaedike added that the purchase was a move Reifenhäuser toward its goal of designing and producing core competencies in-house.
“Besides machine manufacture, we are positioning ourselves as a leading technological component provider for extruders and dies," Gaedike said in a news release. The new unit will significantly strengthen Reifenhäuser's design know-how for die and film tools.
