Software developed by Maguire Products Inc. for its VBD vacuum dryer constantly monitors the changing conditions of dryer operation, and automatically makes adjustments to ensure power consumption remains the lowest of any plastic resin dryer, according to the company in Aston, Pa.
Until now, the company said, the energy efficiency of vacuum dryers has been greatest when they are operated at or near their throughput capacity. But actual throughput varies, according to the rate demanded by the molding or extrusion process.
Now the same dryer can operate at the nearly the same low level of energy consumption at throughputs of only 25 pounds an hour, with no need for operator intervention.
“The new Maguire software eliminates the penalty for low-throughout operation by using data acquired from previous heating cycles to make adjustments to the current cycle, ensuring that the absolutely minimum amount of energy is used while achieving adequate and complete hearing of the resin,” said Frank Kavanagh, vice president of sales and marketing.
The software is available as a standard feature on all new VBD dryers, and it is available as an upgrade on existing dryers, at no cost, Kavanagh said.
Maguire will exhibit at NPE2018, Booth W5747.
