Silgan Holdings Inc. is considering a new plastic container manufacturing facility in Arkansas, according to a local report.
The company's Silgan Plastic Food Containers subsidiary has taken out a construction permit for a facility in Fort Smith, the Talk Business & Politics website reports. Silgan recently purchased property in the city, the website said.
City officials previously indicated a new Silgan plant, if constructed, would bring 150 new jobs to that area within three years of operation, the website said.
A Silgan Holdings official did not return a phone call seeking comment.
Silgan Holdings also has said William Donovan has been elected as a new board member, following the death of board member Edward Lapekas in December.
Donovan most recently was chairman of Rockland Industrial Holdings LLC, a maker of wood flooring products, until December 2014. He will complete a board term that runs until Silgan's annual meeting this year for the Stamford, Conn.-based company.
