Carlsbad, Calif. — Research-oriented FimmTech Inc. is operating a 66-ton Arburg injection molding machine at its newly established teaching and demonstration facility.
President Suhas Kulkarni and Director Vishu Shah briefed attendees at a Jan. 18 open house in the firm's leased 3,000-square-foot unit in a Carlsbad industrial park.
In early January, FimmTech took delivery from Arburg GmbH+Co. KG of the Allrounder model 370E Golden Electric press. The barrel can accommodate a maximum shot weight of 3.7 ounces.
FimmTech plans to establish two certificate programs for its plastics engineering and scientific process engineering courses.
"We have found people who go through a course want a certification for their resumes," Kulkarni said.
The site's bright and airy classroom can accommodate up to 30 persons for FimmTech's intensive two-, three- and four-day offerings on scientific processing and related topics, said Shah, who also is president of the consulting group Consultek LLC of Chino, Calif.
FimmTech offers training and certifications, industry research and development and support for the Nautilus process establishment and qualification software.
Referring to FimmTech's expanded operations in Carlsbad, Kulkarni said, "This is my dream."
As a first grader 42 years ago, he accompanied his father, Mohan Kulkarni, to his job as a research scientist at the National Chemical Laboratory in Pune, India.
Suhas Kulkarni established his business in 2004 and, until the early January move, had operated as a tenant of Distinctive Plastics Inc. in nearby Vista. Kulkarni is author of "Robust Process Development and Scientific Molding."
