Evonik Industries AG has opened a new production line for specialty nylon 12 powders at its production site in Marl, Germany.
The new facility primarily produces high-performance powders for the 3D printing market, said the German specialty chemicals supplier.
According to Evonik, the 3D printing market is “expanding heavily” with double-digit growth rates.
“Polyamide 12 is part of our strategic ‘smart materials' growth engine that involves optimizing the performance and efficiency of products with improved materials,” said Harald Schwager, deputy chairman of the executive board of Evonik Industries.
According to Schwager, the new plant "significantly expands" the company's capacity for production of nylon 12, supporting the development of future-oriented technologies.
The investment size, said Evonik, is in the “mid double-digit million euro range,” expanding the production capacity by 50 percent.
Evonik did not give further details on the current production capacity.
Evonik markets the high-performance powder under the Vestosint brand.
Applications include coating metals in household goods, dishwasher baskets, in the automotive industry or in medical technology.
