Madison, Wis. — Joan Evans, who co-founded the forerunner of Evco Plastics Inc. in 1948 with her husband, Don Evans, died at home at Oakwood Village in Madison, Wis., on Feb. 21 — just nine days after Don died on Feb. 12.
Don and Joan Evans were both 91. They were married for 69 years.
Joan Evans was born in Madison to Leo and Anna Zeier on Nov. 11, 1926. She grew up on her family's dairy farm. In 1944, she enrolled in Madison Business College and upon graduation, worked at Wisconsin Power & Light.
Joan married Don in 1948, and together they founded Evans Plastics that same year. Joan's brother invested in the company in 1951, forming Evans-Zeier Plastics.
Don Evans later sold his shares and started Evco Plastics in his basement in 1964. Evco, based in DeForest, remains owned by the Evans family today.
A private funeral service will take place at a later date.
