Here's a trivia question for you: Who won Thermoformer of the Year two years in a row?
Answer: Robert Porsche!
That's because the Society of Plastics Engineers' Thermoforming division announced March 19 that Porsche will be honored with as 2017 Thermoformer of the Year at the 2018 Thermoforming Conference, set for Sept. 24-26 in Fort Worth, Texas. The award will be presented Sept. 25 at AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys.
Porsche, who owns Milwaukee industrial thermoformer General Plastics Inc., was named Thermoformer of the Year last year by the Society of Plastics Engineers' Thermoforming division.
Last year, he was all set to get the award, but then Hurricane Irma slammed Florida hard, forcing the SPE division to cancel the 2017 conference in Orlando.
The affable Porsche can reuse his speech, just add in some Irma jokes and he'll be good to go! (Or he can recycle it — in tune with these "green" times).
Porsche will have the Thermoformer of the Year stage all to himself in Texas, since the Thermoforming division will not be naming a separate, "2018 winner."
The SPE Thermoforming division will resume its search for the next Thermoformer of the Year in 2019, according to Eric Short, division chairman.
"Last year, members of the SPE Thermoforming division board of directors were extremely disappointed at losing the opportunity to present Bob with a much-deserved honor," Short said. "His lengthy list of accomplishments and contributions to our industry deserve proper recognition, and we'll do that this year in Ft. Worth."
Congratulations to Bob Porsche — for a second time!
