Diversified plastic packaging major ProAmpac has bolstered the pouch side of its business with the acquisition of Pactech Packaging of Rochester, N.Y.
ProAmpac announced April 10 that it bought Pactech for an undisclosed price. The purchase complements ProAmpac's existing flexible packaging operations which mainly supply medical, industrial and consumer markets.
"The acquisition of Pactech expands ProAmpac's flexible packaging pouch manufacturing capabilities in dispensing and clean-environment production," said ProAmpac CEO Greg Tucker in a news release.
"In addition, the deal expands our short-run capabilities, allowing us to better serve our customers" he added.
Sachin Desai, ProAmpac's president of mergers, acquisitions and manufacturing services, said Pactech has a customer-focused culture similar to ProAmpac.
"When I met Pactech CEO Chad Buchta and the whole Pactech team for the first time, I was confident we had a winner and am excited to have them join the ProAmpac family," Desai said.
ProAmpac, based in Cincinnati, now has 28 manufacturing sites around the world with 3,400 employees supplying more than 5,000 customers in 90 countries.
Plastics News data estimated ProAmpac's annual sales at $945 million prior to the acquisition, which made it the ninth largest plastic film and sheet producer in North America last year. The data indicated 14 manufacturing plants in North America.
Pactech began producing flexible packaging in 1993 and has expertise in fitment and dispensing technology. It will become part of the ProAmpac brand, reporting to Chief Commercial Officer Adam Grose. Its Rochester facility has 127,000 square feet of space.
"Pactech's world-class pouch manufacturing facility enhances our spouting, medical capabilities and customer-focused approach to flexible packaging," Grose noted in a news release.
ProAmpac is owned by PPC Partners, formerly called Pritzker Group Private Capital, along with management and other investors.
Chris Trick, principal of PPC Partners' Manufactured Products group, lauded ProAmpac's focus on innovation and its success in acquiring and integrating leading companies.
