Materials maker Evonik Industries AG has recognized Modern Plastics, a shapes and resin distributor in Shelton, Conn., as Distributor of the Year for Evonik's Vestakeep-brand line of implantable polyetheretherketone (PEEK).
"This is a prestigious honor to receive from such a stellar, dominant and global company as Evonik," Modern Plastics President Bing Carbone said.
Modern Plastics has marketed, sold and distributed Vestakeep products throughout the U.S. and Canada for more than 10 years. Those products include resin, powder and rods for short-term contact and for permanent implant medical devices and applications
Vince Griffin accepted the award for Modern Plastics from Evonik North America executives John Rolando and Ken Ross. Griffin is Modern Plastics' vice president and global medical plastics sales manager.
Modern Plastics was founded in 1945 by Joseph Carbone, Bing's grandfather. The firm first did auto glass installation in the 1960s before moving into plastics. Today, Modern Plastics globally distributes high-performance engineering grade stock shapes for Evonik, Ensinger, Westlake Plastics, Rochling, PolyOne and Covestro. The firm also offers custom plastics fabrication.
Essen, Germany-based Evonik employs more than 36,000 worldwide. The firm posted sales of almost $18 billion in 2017.
