I read an article on the Plastics News website titled "Big injection molding machines in the spotlight at NPE" (April 2, Page 1). Within the story, there is a quote that states, "Milacron says it's the biggest injection molding press ever to operate at an NPE." I'd like to take exception to this statement.
Battenfeld of America demonstrated a machine at the 2003 NPE of similar size. Our HM 20000 2P/19000 machine, with 20,000 kn (2,248 U.S. tons) clamp force with a shot size of 15.4 pounds, produced a prototype automotive window.
If memory serves me correctly, there may have even been a photograph of this machine on the cover of Plastics News. (Ed. note: The photo of the machine was on page 20 of the June 25, 2003 edition.)
Although the original press release states that it was a 2,200 ton, it was actually 2,248 ton machine.
I have additional photos and videos regarding this if interested.
