Riverdale's GlobalTracker software to streamline molding job functions

Riverdale Global LLC (Booth S22023) is launching both its GlobalTracker-brand software and a color metering control system for injection molding at NPE2018.

Without cost to the customer, the software can use real-time input from controls to handle a processor's ordering, color matching, documentation and troubleshooting.

Capturing company-wide data from liquid-color metering devices can permit automation of a customer's purchasing, production management and compliance functions.

Special transmission boxes at a customer's plant receive data from the controllers on liquid color metering devices and transmit it to Riverdale Global via the internet or a cellular network.

GlobalTracker software on Riverdale Global servers can track material usage and records such job-specific data as operator identification, work order, lot number and color specification. This capability can extend to all production lines, whether they exist in a single facility or at multiple plants. The customer can access GlobalTracker information using a desktop, tablet or smartphone.

Paul Maguire, Riverdale Global president, said the automated computer-controlled color-matching operation can put an end to the usual paper chase for a customer in documenting compliance. GlobalTracker streamlines job functions, he said.

The patent-pending color metering control system for injection molding can ensure color uniformity and save costs, Riverdale Global says.

The technology is expected to be adapted for solids-metering systems from affiliate Maguire Products Inc.

As designed, the system doses colorant both during the injection phase and during the inactive phase for conventional color and additive metering systems.

During injection molding cycle, about 75 percent of virgin resin enters the screw during the screw recovery phase, and 25 percent during the injection phase. Conventional metering systems add color only during recovery and can result in insufficient mixing.

In Riverdale Global's new 100 percent Injection Coloring-brand system, a special controller receives signals from the processing machine for both phases, and color is added throughout the cycle. Metering takes place at a faster rate during injection because of the rapid screw movement during that phase.
