Extruding industry colossus Sigma Plastics Group, of Pompano Beach, Fla., has ordered four coextrusion blown film lines from Germany's Reifenhäuser GmbH & Co. KG Maschinenfabrik (Booth W3031) in a deal announced at NPE2018.
Sigma claims to be North America's largest privately owned film extrusion group, employing 4,700 people at 42 manufacturing sites and processing in excess of 2 billion pounds of resin a year. The new lines represent an investment in excess of $10 million.
According to a Reifenhäuser news release, two high-output, five-layer, PE-dedicated lines, each equipped with Reifenhäuser's unique Ultra Cool IBC and Ultra Flat patented inline flattening system, will be installed at Sigma's BJK Flexible Packaging operation in Louisville, Ky.
BJK already has two five-layer lines with Reifenhäuser Ultra Flat technology in operation.
For Sigma's Allied Extruders Inc. division, two additional lines have been sold, Reifenhäuser said.
"One line is a three-layer high output and the second is a five-layer, high output PE-dedicated line. Both lines will also be equipped with Ultra Cool and Ultra Flat."
Allied Extruders currently has Reifenhäuser extrusion equipment as well, it added.
Sigma manufactures a variety of flexible packaging products for the industrial, agricultural, food, medical, retail, and converter film markets.
Based in Troisdorf, Germany, Reifenhäuser is a major supplier of plastics extrusion lines, machines and components.
