Alpla Inc. is spending $21 million to create a new production facility near the intersection of two interstate highways in southeast Ohio.
The packaging blow molder expects production to begin in April at an industrial park located near Interstates 70 and 75.
The 154,000-square-foot location is adjacent to the Dayton International Airport and will create about 50 jobs. Alpla indicated it "will soon meet with partners at local technical schools and the state's workforce development offices."
New jobs will include process technicians, maintenance technicians, machine operators, packers, forklift drivers and quality technicians, Alpla said. Interviews will take place in June.
Alpla, a unit of Alpla-Werke Alwin Lehner GmbH & Co. KG of Hard, Austria, is a global packaging company with 19,000 employees in 176 facilities in 45 countries. The company produces packaging for the food and drink, cosmetic, household detergent, washing and cleaning, oils and lubricants markets.
The company ranked fifth on the most recent Plastics News survey of North American blow molders, with regional sales of $986 million.
Alpla has an existing location farther north along Interstate 75 in Lima, Ohio, as well as one in Bowling Green, Ky. to the south of the new site. Alpla also has in-house manufacturing at a L'Oreal USA plant in Florence, Ky., just south of Cincinnati, along Interstate 75.
