Davis-Standard LLC is adding to its film converting equipment portfolio with the acquisition of blown film machinery maker Brampton Engineering Inc.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The Brampton, Ontario-based manufacturer provides what it calls multilayer AeroFrost air-blown and AquaFrost water-quenched film systems, film winding and other technology for film production.
Brampton Engineering's AquaFrost technology, for example, blows the film bubble downward — the opposite of traditional blown film — and can go into medical films and various thermoforming applications.
“Today, we are pleased to welcome Brampton Engineering with their globally recognized blown film technology to our team. Brampton Engineering's focus on customer support, technology and its employees align well with the values of Davis-Standard,” Jim Murphy, president and CEO of Davis-Standard, said in a June 1 news release.
“Davis-Standard is a global leader in plastic extrusion technology, and we are proud to join their team,” Gary Hughes, CEO of Brampton Engineering, said in a statement. “Davis-Standard brings resources and support to our business to better serve our customers worldwide, and we are excited about the solutions we can present together.”
The acquisition follows Davis-Standard's recent rebranding efforts unveiled this past May at NPE2018 in Orlando, Fla., where the Pawcatuck, Conn., extrusion and converting equipment maker rolled out a new logo, slogan and website.
In September 2017, Davis-Standard bought Maillefer SA, a Swiss-based machinery maker for the extrusion coating of wire and cable as well as the production of pipe and tubing.
Murphy told Plastics News correspondent Don Detore in May that Davis-Standard was not actively pursuing other companies.
“There's a lot of small- and medium-sized players in the industry," Murphy said during an interview at NPE. "In most industries, where you see that fragmentation, you see consolidation over time. We fully expect those things to occur because that's what the market generally does, consolidate.
"We're market participants — we're always aware and interested, but there's nothing imminent. We're focused on, from a technological standpoint, extrusion technology as a core competency and controls technology to support that. Business and product lines that are consistent with our core capabilities are very interesting and ones that have a deep technology advantage in the market."
Davis-Standard employs more than 1,250 workers worldwide. The company has manufacturing and technical facilities in the United States, Canada, China, Germany, Switzerland, Finland and the United Kingdom.
