There's still time to share in $100,000 in grants that will go to help promote recovery of difficult-to-recycle plastics.
A deadline for the 2018 Hefty EnergyBag Grants program has been extended to June 29.
The program is designed to help organizations to establish local Hefty EnergyBag programs in their communities.
The program diverts difficult-to-recycle plastics, think chip bags and juice pouches, from landfill disposal.
These plastics are segregated from traditional recyclables in special orange energy bags and sent off for energy recovery.
Dow Chemical Co. and Keep America Beautiful operate the program along with sponsor Hefty.
Applicants can be submitted by municipalities, nonprofits, materials recovery facilities and "other qualifying organizations," organizers said.
