As many of you know, Plastics News is based in Detroit, but it used to be in Akron, Ohio. That's where I'm writing from, well, a suburb of Akron really.
I'm just a stone's throw away from the rubber center. This week and next, we publish the 2018 North American Injection Molders ranking and I wanted to see how many plants are in my stomping grounds. A quick look by zip code shows: 36 right here in my area and 65 near our Michigan headquarters, for 75 and 122 total plants respectively.
I pulled together a heat map of the 1,000+ plants by state in the United States. Our ranking has 49 more in Canada and 70 in Mexico.
These are just the companies that we rank, of course. There likely are some small shops out there that we haven't run across yet, believe it or not.
And what's up with Wyoming? I checked and we have about 20 subscribers in the state, although, most of them are extruders. One website has a picture of cattle tags, of course. But are those made there?
Let us know if they are, and we've simply overlooked them so far.
