It's time for our annual ranking of North American rotational molders. This week we publish the top 100, but online we have the full data on 118 firms. Let's take a look behind the numbers.
The biggest news is the combined listing of Moeller Marine Products Inc. and Inca Molded Products Inc., Both are owned by SeaStar Solutions Inc., but had been ranked separately.
With rotational molding sales of $2.46 billion, this year's ranking total is up 3.8 percent, compared with just 1 percent growth in last year's edition.
53 percent of reporting firms, had growth with 12 percent increases on average. Only a few toy makers and specialty firms reported declines.
The most popular resin grades of polyethylene saw an increase in pricing of 7 percent, with polypropylene following at 3 percent. Agricultural/industrial tanks still rank as the top end market for rotational molding, followed closely by recreational/sporting goods.
This year there were three firms tied at $50 million, making the Top 10 actually 11 firms. A tally of these puts the top firms pulling in a little over 50 percent of the total ranked sales. Keeping with the top 11 firms idea: here is a 10-year history of their ranked sales:
