Akron, Ohio — The University of Akron is cutting almost 20 percent of its degrees and degree tracks, but it's investing in programs where it sees success, including polymer science.
The board of trustees unanimously approved the changes that grew out of the university's recent academic program on Aug. 15.
About 965 students are enrolled in the affected programs. Last fall the school enrolled about 22,100 students.
Areas that will see additional investment include cybersecurity, criminal justice and emergency services; polymer and chemical sciences; health and biosciences; performing arts; digital communication; and business, law and education.
