Shapes and resin distributor Modern Plastics is expanding at its headquarters site in Shelton, Conn.
The firm will add 10,000 square feet of warehouse space in Shelton. The expansion is set to open on Oct. 1. In a news release, president Bing Carbone said that the new warehouse space “is very much needed and [is] a great step forward for the company.”
“We're very excited to be expanding our warehouse storage capacity as our business continues to see exceptional growth,” he added.
Modern Plastics currently occupies a 21,000-square-foot site in Shelton. In the last year, the firm's workforce has grown in size from 13 to 30.
Modern Plastics distributes plastic shape products based on engineering resins including sheet, rod, tube and film. The firm also offers custom plastics fabrication. Modern Plastics generates about 60 percent of sales from the medical sector.
Modern Plastics also distributes PEEK resins, powders and rods for Evonik AG. Earlier this year, Evonik named Modern Plastics its distributor of the year for those materials.
Modern Plastics was founded in 1945 by Joseph Carbone, Bing Carbone's grandfather. The firm first did auto glass installation in the 1960s before moving into plastics.
