Michael Cappelletti, former executive director of the Society of Plastics Engineers, died Sept. 29, surrounded by his family, after a battle with leukemia, in the VITAS Inpatient Hospice Unit at St. Mary's Hospital in Waterbury, Conn.
He was 75.
Cappelletti was born in Waterbury. He was a 1961 graduate of Croft High School, and earned an associate degree from the Hartford Institute of Accounting while working full time and raising a family.
Cappelletti joined SPE in 1984 as finance and administrative director. He became the society's executive director in 1995. He retired from SPE at the end of 2003.
His hobbies included fishing and hunting and shooting trap and skeet with his friends. He was a longtime member of the Wolcott Landowners Association and the Bristol Fish and Game Club.
Cappelletti was a longtime parishioner of Church of Epiphany of Cheshire, Conn.
He owned and restored a 1957 Thunderbird. He was a former member of the Connecticut Chapter of the Classic Thunderbird Club and the Roaring 20s Car Club.
His funeral will be held Oct. 4 at 9 a.m. at Maiorano Funeral Home in Waterbury, with Mass to follow at St. Leo the Great Church at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
