When it comes to plastic packaging, two hot topics are coming together to provide one company a business opportunity.
Sana Packaging is a new company that's designing and developing cannabis packaging, an emerging segment of the market that's capturing a lot of attention these days.
But the Denver-based company is putting a twist on it with a new line of cannabis packaging made from reclaimed ocean plastics, another hot topic these days.
Sana Packaging is working with Oceanworks Inc. of Los Angeles to create the new packaging line that will be available in the spring.
"This is an incredible opportunity to help clean our oceans and protect some of our planet's most fragile ecosystems. While hemp bioplastics will remain our core focus, ocean plastic is a problem we have to address," CEO Ron Basak-Smith said in a statement.
Wait, what?
Hemp-based plastics.
Yep.
Sana Packaging makes a "flagship product line" using "100 percent plant-based and chemical-free hemp plastic."
The Sana Container can store up to 3.5 grams of flower with a lid that doubles as a rolling tray, according to the company. The child-resistant container also can be used for concentrates, vaporizer cartridges, edibles, mints and gummies.
The company also makes child-resistant tubes for "pre-rolls, vaporizer cartridges and vaporizer pens," according to its website.
Oceanworks works to connect businesses with "verified sources of ocean plastic material around the world" and has created a marketplace to facilitate its use.
