U.S.-based packaging company Transcendia Inc. is acquiring Romania's Industrial Mecano Import Export (IME), according to news reports.
In a Jan. 21 report, Romanian reports said IME would be integrated into Transcendia's MetPro division, which manufactures anti-corrosion packaging and has been a long-term partner of IME.
Speaking to Plastics News Europe, an IME spokesman declined to comment on the report, saying the company would publicly announce any development if and when necessary.
Based in Popeşti-Leordeni in the suburbs of Bucharest, IME manufactures polyethylene foils for food packaging, adhesive tapes and shrink film. The company, employs roughly 120 people and had sales of 16 million euros ($18.17 million) last year.
Transcendia, based in Franklin Park, Ill., was founded in 1931 as a converter and distributor of film in the plastics industry. The company currently has 16 production and warehouse facilities in North America and Europe.
