Motion Industries Inc., a Birmingham, Ala.-based distributor of industrial components, is buying automation integrator Axis New England in Danvers, Mass., and its Axis New York facility in Rochester, N.Y.
Founded in 1994, Axis New England serves the Northeast United States, providing expertise in machine automation. The company will continue its focus on motion control, robotics and machine vision. Axis New England's specialty areas include precision components, electro-mechanical assemblies and full automation systems.
The deal, expected to close March 1, was announced on Feb. 13. Terms were not disclosed.
Motion Industries President Randy Breaux said Axis New England will operate as part of his company's Automation Solutions Group.
"Acquiring Axis is in keeping with our strategic intent and complements our growth in the area of industrial plant floor automation," he said.
Motion Industries, a subsidiary of Genuine Parts Co., generates annual sales of more than $5 billion dollars. Motion Industries is a distributor of parts such as bearings, mechanical power transmission, electrical and industrial automation, hydraulic and industrial hose, hydraulic and pneumatic components, industrial products, safety products and material handling.
Genuine Parts is traded on the New York Stock Exchange.
