RKW SE, one of Europe's largest film extruders, is investing $18.8 million to expand its production site in Franklin, Ky.
The project involves the construction of a new 30,000-square-foot manufacturing and warehouse facility, as well as investments in new equipment.
RKW acquired the Kentucky site in 2011 when it bought Westborough, Mass.-based Danafilms Inc.
The Frankenthal, Germany-based group said Feb. 18 that the expansion would enable it to tap into markets and offer new products in North America, but did not provide further details.
RKW North America Inc., with 100 employees, produces high-performance technical films. The investment will also create 30 new job opportunities.
The plant's production capacity was expanded in 2006 through the addition of multilayer extrusion technology.
In 2012, RKW added new capacity for films for absorbent hygiene products at the plant.
RKW North America ranked No. 80 in the most recent Plastics News survey of North American film and sheet manufacturers, with estimated sales of $65 million.
