Arkal Automotive USA Inc. is expanding in Auburn, Ala., with a $2.3 million investment at its facility that will create 25 jobs over the next two years, according to a news release from the city's economic development office.
Arkal Automotive is a division of Israel's Arkal Plastic Products Ltd., which has production plants worldwide in Canada, Mexico, Germany, Poland, Spain and China.
The Auburn injection molding plant opened in 2011 with a $7.2 million investment and is the firm's only production plant in the United States. It produces door carriers, wheel house liners, and other structural and functional auto parts.
The facility employs more than 150 people and supplies to Tier 1s and automakers, including Daimler AG, BMW AG, Volkswagen AG, Audi AG and General Motors Co.
"The expansion is the result of our successful innovations for weight-saving solutions for the automotive industry," CEO Rami Bitensky said in a statement. "This project represents the additional business that we won from the German premier car manufacturer Daimler."
Bitensky said the company's growing operation in Auburn will also take on additional business from Daimler's Mercedes-Benz manufacturing plant in Vance, Ala.
