Celanese Corp. has increased production capacity for Pibiflex and Riteflex thermoplastic co-polyesters at its Donegani facility in Ferrara, Italy.
The expansion project included the addition of a solid-state polymerization unit at the facility, which started up successfully in September, Celanese said in a March 5 statement.
The Dallas-based chemical company also expects to further expand the production capacity of the unit by adding another polymerization line, which is to be completed in the next 15 to 18 months.
The move, said Celanese, is to support “the continued growth of its global engineered materials business.”
TPCs are block co-polymers with high elastomeric properties. They combine favorable characteristics of vulcanized rubber with the easy processability of thermoplastics for toughness, tear and flex fatigue resistance over a wide temperature range.
