Auburn Hills, Mich.-based Teijin Automotive Technologies is investing $110 million in a new 164,400-square-foot facility to house a paint line and assembly capabilities near its Huntington, Ind., facility.
Teijin purchased 30 acres across Indiana Highway 9 from the company's existing 350,000-square-foot manufacturing facility, which currently features compression molding, bonding, water jetting, sanding and priming, the firm said in a May 12 news release.
"As demand for our innovative, lightweight components continues to grow, we have the opportunity to add capabilities and capacity to meet current and future customer needs," Steve Rooney, Teijin CEO, and general manager of Teijin's composites business unit, said in the release. "This site near to our existing Huntington facility made sense because there was land available, and we knew we could access a skilled workforce."
The new facility is expected to be complete, including all equipment installations, by December 2023, and will create about 110 jobs when operations begin in April 2024, the release said.
The new build will create more than 200 jobs at full employment, it added.
The total investment includes the land, building and equipment.
Teijin Automotive Technologies makes advanced composite components, including carbon- and glass-fiber reinforced plastics, for the global automotive and transportation industries. The company has 29 operations in eight countries and employs more than 5,000.
