Kickstart: CBD is good for you, if you make packaging

Believers in CBD oil will be quick to tell you it can cure everything!

Whether that's true or not, the oil harvested from cannabis plants (but without the THC to make you high) does seem to be good business — at least for companies making packaging for CBD.

New Jersey-based blow molder Comar LLC is ramping up production of eye droppers used in packaging for CBD oil, serums and other over-the-counter products by 60 percent to keep up with increased demand. The droppers use plastic or glass pipettes, rubber or TPE bulbs and closures.

I'm sure you've all seen a PopSocket, the thermoplastic thingamajig that sticks to the back of your cell phone case and can pop out to provide you with an easier way to hang onto your phone while watching a video or taking a selfie. (Come on. You may occupy a corner office, but you still selfie on occasion.)

But for owners of phones that can charge up from a special cordless dock, using a PopSocket on a case means you have to fiddle with removing the case before you can place the phone on the dock and charge it up. At CES, Chicago-based startup NuCurrent introduced a version that integrates electronics into the PopSocket, so you can charge without removing the case.

The "PowerPop" sold out within hours.

Let's say that you work on a very popular performance car for a big automaker with lots of horsepower and lightweight carbon fiber to help make it fast. It's probably a big temptation to take it out and see just how well it performs.

Two General Motors Co. engineers have found out exactly why that's not a good idea after they were caught by police near Bowling Green, Ky., racing two 2020 Corvettes at 11:20 p.m. on Jan. 8, traveling in excess of 100 mph in a 45 mph speed zone.
